Phoenix Rising
Therapeutic Equestrian Program

Phoenix Rising Therapeutic Equestrian Program (PRTEP) provides safe and affordable therapeutic riding lessons for physically, mentally, and emotionally challenged individuals in Prince William, Rappahannock, Culpeper and surrounding counties. Founded in April 2005, we are a North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) center in good standing. PRTEP participants range in age from 2 to senior adults.

PRTEP offers a traditional Therapeutic Riding program and a Sensory Integration Trail. The Therapeutic Riding program focuses on using the horse as a tool to give mentally or physically disabled children a greater sense of independence, self-confidence, and accomplishment while improving flexibility, balance and muscle strength. Individualized lessons contribute to improving the student's physical, cognitive, and emotional wellness. The Sensory Integration Trail helps riders benefit from the input of all their senses while riding. The unique sounds and smells of the trail and its natural surprises are augmented by special sensory integration stations.

Rider disabilities include:
* Cerebral Palsy
* Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD or ADHD)
* Down Syndrome
* Multiple Sclerosis
* Brain Injury
* Spina Bifida
* Mental Retardation
* Autism
* Neurological Disorders
