About Us
PRTEP offers a traditional Therapeutic Riding program, a Sensory Integration Trail and an Equine Assisted Learning opportunity for Youth at Risk. The Therapeutic Riding program focuses on using the horse as a tool to give mentally or physically disabled children a greater sense of independence, self-confidence, and accomplishment. Individualized lessons contribute to improving their physical, cognitive, and emotional wellness. The Sensory Integration Trail helps riders benefit from the input of all their senses while riding. The unique sounds and smells of the trail and its natural surprises are augmented by special sensory integration stations. The Equine Assisted Learning opportunity was a pilot program during the 2005 season partnering the Prince William County Juvenile Detention Center and the Joe Gibbs Youth for Tomorrow Residence with PRTEP to provide a learning and service opportunity for youth at risk.
During its inaugural year Phoenix Rising Therapeutic Equestrian Program offered three sessions (total of 26 weeks) and served 35 students during a total of 589 lessons. 6 youth at risk were served.
